Watch/Listen to this Episode Start a Successful Oracle Card Reading Business in 2026
Starting an oracle card business is an increasingly popular career path for spiritual entrepreneurs seeking meaningful work while helping others. In this episode of the Time We Discuss podcast, professional oracle card reader Susie Schaefer shares her journey, business strategies, and practical advice for turning oracle card reading into a successful business in 2026 and beyond.
This career combines intuition, personal development, and entrepreneurship and offers opportunities for income through private readings, events, retreats, and online content.
What Are Oracle Cards and How Are They Different from Tarot Cards
Oracle cards and tarot cards are both tools used for spiritual guidance, reflection, and personal insight. However, they differ in structure and purpose. Tarot cards follow a traditional system with defined meanings and symbolism and are often considered the gold standard in card reading. Oracle cards are more flexible and intuitive. They focus on storytelling, personal interpretation, and delivering messages that are relevant to the person receiving the reading.
Oracle cards allow readers to develop a narrative and help people understand patterns, challenges, and opportunities in their lives. This flexibility makes oracle cards appealing for both beginners and professionals building a spiritual business.
How Susie Schaefer Started Her Oracle Card Career
Susie's journey began after a major life transition. Following her divorce, she worked with a life coach who recognized her intuitive abilities and encouraged her to explore them. She began practicing with her first oracle deck, doing readings for herself and tracking recurring cards. This helped her identify personal patterns and develop her intuitive skills. Like many entrepreneurs, her oracle card business began as a personal interest before growing into a professional service. Her experience highlights an important lesson for anyone starting a spiritual business. Many successful oracle card readers begin by practicing with friends, family, and themselves before offering professional services.
The Business Opportunity in Oracle Card Reading
- Oracle card reading offers multiple income streams, making it a viable career option in 2026.
- Professional oracle card readers can earn income through private client readings, birthday parties, private events, retreats, workshops, and online content.
- Group readings at retreats help create connection and set intentions. These experiences also help grow a business through referrals and networking.
- This variety allows oracle card readers to create flexible and scalable businesses.
How to Get Clients as an Oracle Card Reader
One of the biggest challenges when starting an oracle card business is attracting clients. Social media platforms such as YouTube and TikTok provide powerful opportunities to share readings and build an audience. These platforms allow potential clients to discover your work and connect with your style. Consistent content creation helps establish credibility and trust, which is essential in a spiritual business. Education and mentorship can also help new readers develop both spiritual skills and business skills.
Combining Authenticity and Business for Success
One of the key turning points in Susie's career was integrating her oracle card reading with her publishing business. Initially, she kept her spiritual work separate. However, when she began embracing her authentic self and sharing her intuitive abilities openly, her business grew significantly. She began attracting clients who aligned with her values and message, leading to stronger relationships and better opportunities. This highlights an important principle for entrepreneurs in any field. Authenticity can be a competitive advantage. People are drawn to individuals who are genuine and passionate about their work.
The Role of Oracle Cards in Personal Growth and Healing
Oracle card readings are often used as tools for reflection, healing, and personal development. Oracle cards can help people recognize patterns in their lives, understand emotional blocks, gain clarity during difficult situations, make decisions with confidence, and process personal challenges. These readings can provide value beyond traditional spiritual guidance and support personal transformation.
Mindset and Money in a Spiritual Business
One of the biggest myths about spiritual careers is that you cannot make money doing them. Many professionals in the spiritual industry earn income through readings, events, retreats, and online platforms. Success requires:
- Confidence in your value
- business skills
- marketing visibility
- consistent practice
A strong mindset is essential for turning oracle card reading into a sustainable career.
How to Develop Oracle Card Reading Skills
For those interested in becoming oracle card readers, foundational practices such as meditation and journaling can help develop intuition and self awareness. Practicing regularly with your card deck, joining spiritual communities, learning from mentors, and attending workshops can accelerate skill development. Like any professional skill, oracle card reading improves with practice and experience.
Common Misconceptions About Oracle Card Reading
Oracle card reading is often misunderstood. Some people believe it is negative or harmful, but many professional readers approach their work from a place of positivity and guidance. The purpose of oracle card reading is to help people gain clarity, reflect on their lives, and move forward with confidence.
Why Oracle Card Reading Is a Growing Career in 2026
The demand for spiritual services continues to grow as more people seek purpose, clarity, and alternative career paths. Oracle card reading offers flexibility, meaningful work, and the opportunity to build your own business. With the growth of online platforms, readers can reach clients around the world. This makes oracle card reading a realistic and rewarding career option for entrepreneurs in 2026.

Dan: What is one thing that is maybe misunderstood about it that you'd like to share with everyone?
Susie Schaefer: So many people feel that reading cards is evil and they need to understand.
Dan: Today, on Time We Discuss, I wanna welcome back Susie Shaefer and it's time we discuss what it's like working as an Oracle card reader this time. Susie, thank you for joining me today.
Susie: Dan, thanks so much for having me back.
Dan: This is gonna be such, such a great conversation. Back, I don't know, maybe a year or so ago, I spoke with India Leigh, who was a tarot card reader. Now, admittedly, I don't know what the difference is if there is any between tarot cards and Oracle cards, but I bet you do. So talk to us about Oracle cards and what it's like being an Oracle card reader.
Susie: Tarot cards are kind of the gold standard as far as card readers. And Oracle cards are just a different way of sharing the story. And part of the reason why I chose Oracle cards is that my guides instructed me that I was to use Oracle cards because it helps me really develop, what's the story? What's the message that the person receiving the reading needs to hear? I also learned that I was an Oracle in a past life. So it just made sense for me to kind of pick up the mantra and keep going with it in this lifetime.
Dan: Talk to me about getting started from more of a like, I don't wanna say hobby perspective, or maybe just like, just because you wanted to try it out and do actually doing something with that. So talk to me, let's walk me through that.
Susie: After my divorce, I didn't want to go into therapy because I saw that as a negative connotation that there was something wrong with me. And I knew there was nothing wrong with me. I just needed some help. So I worked with a life coach who happened to be a psychic medium. And she learned that I had gifts. And she said, Are you aware of this?
And I think that I've always been aware of it, but mostly when I was a child, I was very imaginative. I was kind of a weirdo, you know? And, but as we go through life, a lot of times our gifts get squashed by family units, by, you know, education, our surroundings, social aspects. And so when I really got permission from her to explore my gifts and really work on them, it helped me tremendously. So that's when I got my first Oracle deck, which we will be using today. And what I did is, as I was working with her and doing my own readings, I was literally tracking the cards that kept coming up for me. Because when you see that repetition, it is an indicator that you need to do a deeper dive and get to the root of the problem and what's going on. So it can really help you look at your life. And if you have, you know, any kind of trauma in your life or anything like that, you can really unravel that by using the cards to bring to the forefront the things that you need to look at.
Dan: That's so interesting that you talk about the mental health component. And again, when I was speaking with India, if I remember correctly, and if not, she gets a free plug out of this, a second time, I believe she talked about using that at, in conjunction with some kind of mental health event that was going on. Like they had her set up somewhere and she was very fascinating. I wouldn't necessarily think that the two kind of like intersect in that Venn diagram. So really, really interesting.
Susie: Yeah, it really is. And I think that when people can take the, oh, kind of like the black mark of, oh, you're using witchcraft and the occult, it really is not like that. If you're looking at doing readings from a spiritual perspective, as far as finding the light in that, finding the God source in that, it really can be very powerful and can be very helpful for people that are going through difficult situations. Because sometimes we can't see what's going on in our lives because it's just too close to us or it's right in front of us. And so we can't always see it. But when you have a tool like cards, they can be very helpful and help you figure out what are your patterns? What are the behaviors that you need to change? Are there things that are just repetitive and keep you stuck in a cycle? I even use oracle readings for my authors because many times they do have some type of trauma that has kept them stuck in writing their book. And so when we uncover some of that, we will sometimes open the doors for them to say, hey, yeah, it's okay to talk about these things. It's okay to write about this. Whether we use it in the book, it doesn't really matter, but it helps them start the path of healing.
Dan: Earlier today, I was actually speaking with a previous guest who's a hypnotist. Almost two years ago at this point. And we were talking about the concept of keeping different aspects of your personality separate. And it's interesting, and I'm gonna dive right into this with you. It's interesting the whole idea of something so professional for lack of better words as being an author and a publishing company. And then you're gonna mix that in with this new age, dare I say like woo woo kind of topic. And you're okay with that. And that was one of the things that we were talking about. It was like, is it okay? Is it better because you're being authentic? So long winded, talk to me about that. Talk to me about blending these two completely different sides into yourself, into your business.
Susie: For a long time, I did keep them separate. I was doing readings on the side for friends and not talking about that at all, the spiritual aspect at all in my publishing business. And it was a friend of mine who actually said to me, you should do that with the publishing because it's really cool. The whole woo woo thing is kind of sexy. And I was like, what? And so it just, the light bulb went on. And then I realized that, wow, by me not using my gifts and sharing them when people want that, I'm really not being authentic. So yeah, I said, okay, I gotta take this leap, right? I gotta do it. And once I did, it was fascinating because all of a sudden I started connecting with better clients, authors that I really resonated with their story, their message, and just everything started to click into place. My business started really doing a lot better, thriving actually, because now I was showing up and being authentic, my authentic self. And if people don't like that woo woo side, then they're probably not a fit for me, but that's okay. They're gonna find the right person to work with. But those people that do like that spiritual aspect, especially when it comes to writing your book and doing a deeper dive and looking at healing trauma and all those kinds of things, then yeah, it makes a lot of sense.
Dan: And that's pretty much the same conclusion we came to, that it almost becomes like a competitive advantage that you have these different things to offer.
Susie: Yeah, it's the unicorn in the room.
Dan: Earlier, and I don't remember your exact words, but earlier you talked about shutting down your skills and taking the time to reopen, I guess. Talk to me about that. What was that like for you?
Susie: I don't think it was even a conscious effort. I just think that the environment that we grow up in as children can be very challenging. If you are creative, if you are woo woo, if you see ghosts in the house, people don't necessarily take you seriously. And so the norm is to, okay, I need to fit in. So what happens is children, young people, will typically shut those abilities down because it's a self-protection method, right? So I think that then we just go about our day-to-day lives and we live our life when we go to school and we get married and have kids and do all the things and have a career and everything else. And we forget, we forget about the uniqueness that we have as children. And until somebody can point that out to you and say, Hey, it's time to go back and rediscover that,
then you realize, , it's still there. It's just that it was sidelined for a little bit of my life.
So I think everybody has the ability to channel, has the ability to be psychic, has the ability to use telepathy, ESP. It depends on if you can understand those skills and you can practice those skills, it's like anything. I mean, we've talked about yoga. You're gonna get better at yoga the more you practice, right? Well, it's the same thing with your spiritual gifts. You're gonna get better the more you practice. And it is important to connect yourself with other people that also have gone through similar situations and are also exploring on how to use those gifts and how to bring them to the forefront and share those with the world.
Dan: So this has actually come up a number of times with different people that I've spoken to. How does, in your opinion, what's the best way for someone to continue to develop these skills? Is it going to a workshop or just a matter of meditating? What is the best way that someone can kind of take that innate ability and make it flourish?
Susie: Well, number one is definitely meditation as a practice, meditation and journaling. Those two things are a great way to really get yourself launched into discovering and understanding your spirituality. But then also using whatever tools that resonate for you. For some people, it's cards. For other people, it's pendulums. For other people, it might be runes. So it doesn't matter how you do it. Just start, just start. And then go seek out people. And I'm gonna give a shout out to Mary Jo Cranmore on Soulful Revolution TV. She's on YouTube and she's got a great platform. She was one of the people that really helped me when I first got started in understanding that there are other people out there like this that are going through these situations. I'm a part of her Pathfinder's group. And we meet weekly to have conversations and discuss and talk about a variety of questions, whether it's somebody going through a divorce, whether it's world events, whether it's, what is the astrology? What's going on in the energy right now with the world? All these types of things, we talk about all of them because it's important. And these things affect us in this physical world that we're in.
Dan: When it comes to doing reading, so you talked about incorporating it into your business, which again, is awesome. Do you ever do readings outside of that? Are you engaged at all with like outside of your normal work hours, at a various event, party, whatever? Do you do anything like that? Or no, you just strictly keep it for yourself and your business?
Susie: Oh no, I do it all. So one of my favorite things is to do retreats. I actually have retreats, birthday parties, anything, any events like that. I love doing those. I actually have been brought to several different types of writing retreats where I will do the opening reading for the group. And so it will be a collective reading that we will just say, okay, what's the intention that we're setting for this weekend that we're going to have? It's really wonderful because it creates this cohesiveness within the group. And then it was throughout the audience, I allow people to ask personal questions on how their life might relate to what we're getting in the reading. And people love it because it just really kind of opens things up and sets the tone for the experience that they're about to go through. But also doing it for, for example, birthday parties. It's really fun because I can sit with a group of people and I've not met these people before, but I might know the birthday girl or the host. And so we can sit in a group and do readings for each other. And there will be things that come through in the cards that there's no possible way I would have known that about that person because I don't know them. And when that happens and the rest of the room gasps, it's really fun because it's kind of, it's kind of like having a magic trick, but it's not magic, it's real, right? Or messages come through, names will come through sometimes. A lot of grandparents that have passed on, a lot of times they will come through in reading. So it's fascinating to see that happen. It's really a lot of fun. So yeah, if you've got a birthday party and you want someone to come and do a reading, it's an absolute blast.
Dan: That's really cool. Okay, so if someone wants to get started doing this, say they've already, they've been working with Oracle cards for a number of, for a time period, they're very comfortable with it. They've given readings for friends, family, themselves, whatever, they wanna start doing this professionally. Where is the best place for them to get started doing that? Where's the best place for them to get the foot in the door, get their name out there? How can they get started doing this professionally?
Susie: I think that if you're gonna do it professionally and you wanted to attract clients, looking at TikTok or YouTube, one of those would be a great way to get started and get yourself out there. I don't have a, I don't do it on my YouTube channel. I actually, well, it's part of my podcast too. I do pull three cards at the end of every podcast episode. So it's really kind of fun. But another shout out to Soulful Revolution TV. Mary Jo has a class on spiritual, like how to build a spiritual business. I highly recommend that because you really do need some assistance because just being an entrepreneur is tough. And if you layer on the aspect of a spiritual business that is not for everybody, then you're just, it's a lot tougher. So you've gotta get help. You've gotta find the resources that are gonna help you build that business and create a living for yourself. And one of the things that most people that are in the spiritual world, they have to do some healing around is the fact that we've all been told in different ways that if you are working in the spiritual business, you're never gonna make any money. Like that's like what people have always thought, right? Well, that's not true. There are people that work in the spiritual sector that make really good money. And so I think that that is one of those things that too you have to look at and you have to heal that because that's the belief that needs to be uprooted.
Dan: It's really interesting that you mentioned that because I've spoken to several people that are part of that world. An occult researcher, paranormal investigator. We already talked about Laura Van Tyne who's the professional exorcist. And some of them, they said that all the way from, you can't make money doing this. You need to supplement it somehow. Either you need to write books or you need to do seminars or something like that. All the way up to Laura who was actually doing this full-time professionally and has a wait list and you have everything in between. So it's really interesting to hear that. Yes, we have been told you can't make money doing this but you also can do it. Very, very cool.
Susie: One of the things that a lot of people don't realize is that money is a resource. It's just energy. So if you can release your attachment to the actual dollar and money and think of it as a resource like time, like people, like networking, anything like that. When you put it in that frame, you let go of the attachment you have to it. Which means that now you've opened yourself up and the money can flow in easier. It's a whole different mindset shift.
Dan: So completely unrelated. Let's talk about the readings briefly. Okay, so if you're doing a reading for someone and I would imagine that you've come across this scenario at least once, where you give them the reading and the person just, no, no, that doesn't make sense. How do you as a person, you specifically, how do you react to that?
Susie: Well, first of all, I don't know if that's actually ever really happened to me, but in a scenario where that would happen, sometimes it's because what's happening in the reading is not in the present moment. It is in the future. And so you have to say, okay, if this does not resonate for you now, just wait and just kind of take a moment with this because this might make sense to you in six months or a year. And so one of the things I do with my readings is I give them pictures of the cards so that they have them. I also give them the PDF forms of the guidebooks that come with these decks. Now, when I do a reading, I don't read from the guidebooks. I have read the guidebooks and know the general meanings, but really when I'm reading the cards, I'm channeling the information. I also have certain symbols and things on these cards that my guides have told me, this is what this represents. So they get pictures of the cards, they get the guidebooks, and I let them know this is not a one and done. I encourage you to go back and look at the cards, look at the details on the cards, read from the guidebooks, because there's gonna be some other information in there for you that I haven't even discussed. So there's more to a reading than just saying, okay, here's the cards and this is what it means. It's really a lot deeper.
Dan: Talking about your podcast, you talked about the very end, you do a three-card draw, I think you called it.
Susie: Yep.
Dan: What is the purpose of that? Is it like, is it just random three cards? Hey, let's see what the deck has to say today. Like, what's the premise, I guess?
Susie: Well, it can be anything. I ask my guest on the podcast, is there something that you'd like information about? Or do we want to open it up and say, what does the audience need to hear today? So it can be almost anything, you know? Yeah, the sky's the limit, you know? We love good questions.
Dan: What was the most interesting reaction that somebody had to a reading that you did?
Susie: I love this story so much because it's just, it's very profound when these things happen. So I did a reading for a friend of mine and she had said, basically, one of the cards that came out of the deck is the card of clean it up. And on this card is an elk. And the elk has a broom in its mouth and it's cleaning it up, meaning there's some energy fractions that need to be cleaned up. Could also mean that they're your physical environment. You might need to go clean out the junk drawer or something like that because when we clean it shifts energy. And I said, the elk is speaking to me and she said, well, it's interesting. She goes, my husband is hunting right now and he went out to, he's never gotten an elk. And I said, he will get an elk. I said, what I'm hearing is that he's going to get an elk and it's going to be massive. And she says, what? She goes, he's never gotten an elk. So several weeks later, she sends me a message and she sent me a picture of him with the elk that he got. And I said, oh my goodness. I said, it was beautiful. And I said, by chance, do you guys make jerky? And she said, yes. And I said, can you please send me some? I said, this elk is magic. And so she sent me jerky. We all ate the jerky, you know, because it's delicious and good for you. And it was interesting because both of us had a spike in our business too, right after that happened because we were consuming of the magical elk. So there are very profound things that happen. I've had grandparents come through and identified the name. I've realized that some people I've read for, I read for one woman at a retreat and said, oh, I said, I think we have a past life together as sisters. And so sure enough, the cards confirmed that we actually were sisters in a past life. So yeah. That's really, really cool. Yeah, it's very cool. It's yeah. It's like magic, but it's not magic. It's real. So yeah.
Dan: When it comes to being an oracle card reader or a tarot card reader, what is one thing that is maybe misunderstood about it that you'd like to share with everyone?
Susie: So many people feel that reading cards is evil and they need to understand anything can be used for good or evil. It is the intention. It is where you come from in your heart that sets the intention for what the reading's going to be. And of course too, I don't, I also use a lot of protection, energetic protection as well. And so when you're doing that kind of work, I'm not allowing negative or dark entities or demons to come into my work. They just simply do not belong. So I'm reading from a place of love and light and to get the messages that are to be conveyed to that person. So I think that's the biggest misnomer is that, oh, any of the tarot astrology, oracle readings, numerology even, a lot of people think that those are blasphemous. And actually they are talked about in the Bible and there's a reason why astrology is talked about in the Bible because the map of the world literally is made in the stars. And God created all of that. So it is all connected. And so these practices, these tools that we use were hijacked by the dark, dark cult I would say, to use them for bad because they knew how powerful they were. But there's many of us that use it for the light and use it for good.
Dan: Susie, something that you shared that with us, that is just wonderful information. And I hope everyone takes that and really embraces that. Now, unfortunately I am running out of time, but before I hand the floor over to you, I wanna take a second and thank Laura Van Tyne once again for introducing us. Again, Laura was in episode 132 as an exorcist. So everyone please go check out that video. It was a very good one. The link is in the description. Now Susie, this once again is a part of the show where I'd like to offer my guests the opportunity to talk about a project they're working on, a cause they believe in, more about their business. So if there's something specific you'd like to discuss, the floor is once again yours.
Susie: Well, I think what we should do is pull three cards.
Dan: I love it. I love it. Let's do it.
Susie: All right. Do you have a specific question or topic?
Dan: No.
Susie: Okay.
Dan: How about this? I have a number of irons in the fire. What does the future hold, generally speaking?
Susie: For you?
Dan: Yeah.
Susie: Specifically?
Dan: Sure.
Susie: Okay. Okay. What does the future hold for Dan? Okay. So the first card out is a 42 card. So four plus two is a six. Six is the number of love. So this is saying that, and the card itself is chopped wood. So, you know, the saying, Chopped wood carry water.
What it's saying to you is do everything with love because when you do, it will open these doors for you. It will open these doors for you. So just continue doing the day-to-day work. It's very much Virgo. Virgo is about our day-to-day tasks, our routines. So it's saying, Just keep going, do everything, but do it from the spirit of love.
At the top, there's a banner. The banner for me represents a past life timeline. It's very similar to banners they would use in medieval times with fairs and markets and things like that. So this is telling me that the work that you do is partly tied to your past life. So you very much could have been an orator, is the word I'm getting, or you may have been someone who entertains others with your voice. It is very much tied to that. So keep doing that work because it's very powerful for you. The next card is a 37. Three plus seven is a 10. So 10 is the end of a cycle, meaning that the things that have frustrated you in the past are gone. This is never ending story. I love that movie, by the way. And so you can see, she's sitting on the hourglass kind of downtrodden. So the things that were frustrating for you in the past, just let them go. It's part of a cycle that you're ready to let go of. And also there's a heart in this hourglass too. So again, just focus on the love, the things that bring you love in your life. That is gonna be the thing that kind of gets you through those tough times. And you also did have a past life timeline with this too. So again, in this third card, another past life. So you have three past lives now that you are embodying the work that you're supposed to be doing. Now the card in this one is a 44. So 44 is an eight. Eight is the infinity symbol if you put an eight on its side. So that is very powerful. Also, whenever you have duplicate numbers or triplicate numbers, those are considered angel numbers. They're very powerful. This card is the thinker. Now, what's interesting is I pulled cards for somebody earlier today and she got this card. I have since shuffled this deck multiple times and she got this card too. You can see she's sitting on these blocks. These blocks are actually building blocks or a foundation. And what it's saying is that you have built a very solid foundation, but yet you overthink things. So don't worry about it so much. Just do everything with love. You're gonna be fine. You're actually gonna do very, very well. Yeah, just don't overthink it because the foundation that you've created, you can see the stars here, is supported by your angels guides, pass on loved ones and ancestors. So you have a lot of angelic support. Keep going and doing what you're doing. You are meant to be doing this work. It is part of your life mission.
Dan: That is awesome. I absolutely love that. And it kind of resonates with some other readings that I've gotten from the past as well, which is very, very interesting.
Susie: Yeah, I think that honestly, you might even want to engage in doing a past life regression and asking the question about what's the past life where I was a speaker, an orator, an entertainer of some kind and get more information about that. Because also the image that was coming to me was like a court gesture, like someone who, right? So you may have actually been that in a past life because you are funny too. But that's the image that was coming to me during that. And so I love that. I think past lives sometimes can really open up the doors and show us who we are as a human because our souls continue on and that we bring those past lives with us.
Dan: Susie, that is definitely something to think about. I appreciate you drawing those cards for me. I had a nice fun moment to the end of the episode here. I want to encourage everyone to go check out Susie's podcast, check out her website. Links will be on the website in the description. They'll be all over the place. So if people are trying to find you, they can easily find you. Again, Susie, it's been an absolute pleasure having you on Time We Discuss and we learned what it's like being an Oracle card reader.
Susie: Dan, thanks so much for having me back.
