Time We Discuss: Career Journey: Finance, Medicine, Planting a Church, Author
Watch/Listen to this Episode Career Journey: Finance, Medicine, Planting a Church, Author
Author CC Robinson is featured in this episode of Time We Discuss where she talks about her career journey from finance to medicine, ministry, and writing. It begins with Robinson's experience in finance, where she worked as a middle-market lender in Chicago. She quickly realized the field was not fulfilling and transitioned to medicine after career counseling. She pursued a medical degree and a master's in public health at Vanderbilt, driven by a passion for serving underserved communities. This passion led her to establish medical clinics in inner cities and post-civil war nations, working to bring healthcare to people in desperate need.
Her medical mission work spanned over a decade and took her to conflict zones like Afghanistan, Colombia, and Sierra Leone. However, balancing this demanding work with family life became challenging. As her children grew older, she decided to transition out of international medical missions and focus on other pursuits. This led her and her family to relocate to Cincinnati, where they planted a church.
Robinson and her husband, already experienced in ministry, took on leadership roles in their new church. She became the executive pastor, using her background in finance and nonprofit management to establish the church's structure. The church grew significantly, achieving official nonprofit status and securing its own building, which required extensive renovations funded by the congregation. Today it is a diverse and thriving community, reflecting the vision and leadership of the church's lead pastors and the work of the leadership team, of which Robinson is still a member.
In addition to her work in ministry, Robinson pursued her lifelong passion for writing. She was inspired by a vivid dream in 2012 that depicted a dystopian future in which America was divided along racial lines. This vision became the foundation for her Divided series, a young adult dystopian novel series exploring themes of unity, racial tension, and reconciliation. The first book was published in September, with more installments on the way.
Through her diverse career paths, Robinson has consistently focused on serving others—whether in finance, medicine, ministry, or writing. She uses her platform to inspire change, challenge societal divisions, and offer hope for a better future.
