5 Weirdest Paranormal Jobs You Can Get!
Watch/Listen to this Episode 5 Weirdest Paranormal Jobs You Can Get!
Paranormal Investigator / Ghost Hunter
Dan revisits his chat with Joshua Chaires from Phantom Detectives LLC, who investigates haunted locations and helps people experiencing strange phenomena. The job offers travel, teamwork, and plenty of eerie encounters — though it's typically a hobby before it becomes profitable. Many investigators supplement their work through content creation, teaching, or public speaking.
Professional Exorcist
Next is Laura Van Tyne, a professional exorcist whose unexpected journey began when paranormal activity invaded her own home. Now, she helps others facing similar problems — and she's so busy she's booked out a month in advance. Dan reminds listeners that this career demands serious spiritual self-care before taking it on.
Occult Researcher
Through his conversation with Holly Faust, Dan uncovers the role of an occult researcher — someone who helps paranormal teams decode mysterious symbols and artifacts. This job isn't about summoning evil, but about understanding the symbolism that drives paranormal lore. Like many niche paths, income often comes from writing or teaching.
Astrologer
Dan also highlights Susan Reynolds, a full-time professional astrologer. She discusses how astrology examines the link between celestial movements and human experiences. While sometimes dismissed as pseudoscience, astrology remains a thriving entrepreneurial field — open to anyone with curiosity, empathy, and business savvy.
Tarot Card Reader
Rounding out the list is India Leigh, a former journalist who became a professional intuitive and tarot card reader. After personal transformation through self-hypnosis and meditation, she found a calling in helping others through energy work and readings. India offers a clear path for beginners and emphasizes the importance of connection and intuition.
Bonus: Haunted Attractions
Dan closes the episode with a call for actors from haunted houses, hayrides, and zombie paintball events. We are curious to know what it's really like working in these fright-filled seasonal gigs. If you know someone, we'd love to connect!
Finally, Dan teases his upcoming side project, Wondering Monsters Podcast, where he and friends dive into the weird and mysterious with humor and imagination. Topics include the Boogeyman, Mothman, and other legendary creatures.

Dan: Welcome to Time We Discuss, where we hear from real people working real jobs and finding out what it's really like. Today's episode is a little different. In the spirit of Halloween, I'm going over five job opportunities that are related to the paranormal. I'm also looking for a person that works a specific job, and I'll do a call out on that later. And lastly, I have a paranormal project that I'm working on, so I'll share that too. But you're here for the jobs, so let's get to it. Five paranormal jobs in five minutes. Let's go.
First up, paranormal investigator. Last Halloween, I spoke with Joshua Chaires from Phantom Detectives LLC. Link up top and in the description. If you're interested in helping people that don't know where to go for paranormal help, this could be for you. You get to travel and experience all kinds of weird things. You also get to debunk paranormal claims. it's helpful to team up with people that have different skill sets, like having an electrician or plumber on hand, for instance. The barrier entry is really low with this one, just a few hundred dollars to get started. The downside, this is going to be a hobby at first, as people in this field don't typically charge for their services. But you could supplement that by having a podcast, YouTube channel, writing books, teaching courses, or being a public speaker. links for becoming a professional speaker or a professional paranormal podcaster in the description.
Next, professional exorcist. Yes, Laura Van Tyne is a professional exorcist. Link up top and in the description. Again, if you're interested in helping people that don't know where to go for paranormal help, this could be for you. Laura's story is a wild one. She didn't choose this path so much as the path chose her, as she sought help from everyone as paranormal activity exploded in her household. Now she helps others who have similar problems. I was equally terrified to hear that Laura is booked out a month. I had no idea that there were so many people encountering unexplained phenomena at this level that she was so busy. unlike working as a paranormal investigator, Laura does charge for her services. Before venturing into this field, learn how to take care of your spiritual self first, so that you don't get any hitchhikers.
Number three, occult researcher. I had a really fun conversation with Holly Faust in the spring of 2025, link up top, and in the description. Joshua Chaires connected me with Holly, and she works alongside the team. She will help paranormal investigators identify the meaning of various symbols which they may encounter. it isn't uncommon for those of us that are not familiar with the occult to automatically think evil, definitely not always the case. Similar to being a paranormal investigator, you'll want to find ways to supplement your income if you go down this road. You might consider teaching courses or writing books.
Short break, I want to share the Wondering Monsters Podcast, the new project I'm tackling with friends where we talk about the weird with an element of humor. What if the boogeyman were real and we could weaponize it? Was the mothman real or was this psychic phenomenon? Fun conversations about the weird. Link to the Wondering Monsters Podcast trailer is in the description.
Back to the jobs, number four, astrologer. Professional and full-time astrologer Susan Reynolds joined us in the summer of 2025, link up top, and in the description. Not to be confused with astronomy, astrology is about the correlation between celestial objects and human affairs. To completely oversimplify and mainstream it, think horoscope. Again, that is a gross simplification of it. Because the paranormal is far from mainstream and most people don't even consider it a viable career, I was again excited to hear that Susan is working in this field full time. This is one of those careers that has a lower barrier to entry and is welcoming of anyone from any background. Susan was kind enough to offer a free reading, which was insightful and entertaining. Like the other professions that I mentioned, this one is entrepreneurial in nature. So you're going to need some good people skills and business skills or know people that can help with your knowledge gaps. Again, check out the full episode to learn more.
Last but certainly not least, tarot card reader. Recommended by Susan Reynolds, India Leigh joined me in September of 2025, link up top, and in the description. Now India was originally a journalist, sidebar, journalist link in the description. Through a life changing event, India found herself on a path utilizing self-hypnosis and meditation. As an intuitive energy and card reader, this is another occupation aimed at helping people. Working professionally in this field for over a decade, India lays out a clear path on how anyone can get started. On a personal note, India also gave me a free reading, and it was also incredibly insightful and entertaining.
Unrelated to the previous five occupations, we've all been to haunted hayrides or the theatrical style haunted houses, haunted barns. Maybe even some of you have done the zombie paintball events. I need your help. I'm a little late on this, but if anyone knows an actor that is part of these haunted house type events, please connect me with them. I don't know if anyone else wants to know what it's really like working that job, but I really want to know what it's like.
That'll close out episode 143. You've made it this far. Check out the Wondering Monsters Podcast available everywhere you get your podcasts. As always, if there's an occupation that you'd like me to cover, let me know in the comments, and I'll find that person for you. Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe. I'll see you next time on Time We Discuss.
